Over the last couple of months, we introduced the people and organisations behind the LEGATO Project on our social media platforms. In this article, we will focus on the project’s clinical trial leader, Prof. Dr Matthias Preusser, and the clinical trial co-leader, Prof. Dr Giuseppe Minniti.
Dr Preusser is Professor of Medical Oncology and Head of the Division of Oncology at the Medical University of Vienna. He serves as Chair of EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Brain Tumour Group and is past President of EANO European Association of Neuro-Oncology. He will act as Executive Editor of Neuro-Oncology from January 2024. As a member of the ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology Fellowship Committee, the ESMO Faculty for CNS Tumours, Dr Preusser is a Subject Editor in the ESMO Guidelines Committee. Dr Preusser’s research focuses on biomarkers and therapy in brain tumours, having published over 450 peer-reviewed articles on the subject. He is a co-author of the current edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Brain Tumours.
Prof. Dr Giuseppe Minniti is the Professor of Radiation Oncology and Chair of Academic Unit of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiological Sciences, Oncology and Anatomical Pathology, Sapienza Università di Roma, Policlinico Umberto I, Rome, Italy; Clinical Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. He is a radiation oncologist with a specialist research interest in treating adults with primary brain tumours. Dr Minniti completed his medical school training, radiation oncology residency training, and PhD course at University of Rome Sapienza and his fellowship/postdoctoral training in radiation oncology and neuro-oncology at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust London. His major research interests include optimization of radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery for patients with primary and metastatic brain tumours, and combined radio chemotherapy. Professor Minniti serves as a member of Executive board of the EANO European Association of Neuro-Oncology and EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Brain Tumor Group and is currently coordinator of CNS tumours of ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology Faculty Group.
